Yahoo brings internet to TV

can this save the ‘traditional’ TV?

i read 2 news about Yahoo bring internet to TV on the same day

i think the idea is great (not new), at least the direction is correct

but what’s the difference between

1) Yahoo X Intel

http://connectedtv.yahoo.com/partners/intel

2) Yahoo X Samsung

http://www.brandrepublic.com/News/841333/Samsung-partners-Yahoo-TV-internet-service

certainly the Intel one looks more sophisticated and more difficult to understand…

Penguin is the google of publisher…

Penguin, if you think they’re just a traditional publisher, you’re wrong

they’re the GOOGLE in publisher industry

they’re the pioneer of innovation, always surprise me by brilliant idea/project

just like Radiohead is the GOOGLE in music industry…

their latest project: Penguin Dating

in HK, dating site like yahoo dating is not so widely accepted/adopted by people at age 15-30

people might think u must have some problem if you have to find a partner thru the dating site (perhaps you don’t have any friends in the real world), i’m not sure what’s the thinking for people beyond 30, and i’m not sure what’s the thinking for people in other countries, but for Chinese, i guess more or like the same

so there’s a virtual wall in front of the dating site to block you, if you join a dating site, you don’t want to let your friends know as well!

but what else better than a Book site cross over Dating site?????????

Penguin’s Digital Marketing Director Anna Rafferty said:  ‘Sometimes a book means so much more; at Penguin we believe that the books we cherish and read over and over, those that we feel a deep emotional connection with, say something defining about us and the type of people we are.  ‘What are you reading / what did you last read / who’s your favourite author?’ are all standard first date question, and what better way to find your life partner than over a shared love for Lawrence or a passion for Pynchon?’

imagine, the wall is now collpased, it disappeared.

you join the site because you’re book lover, literature, culture, sharing with friends…

you’re no longer tagged to alone/socially disconnected/rejected/

just compare the 2 sites, you shall know what i mean

http://hk.personals.yahoo.com/

http://penguin.match.com/

if there’s a HK version, i’m sure this will be a great hit, or we might propose page one HK to develop one…

if you don’t know what great project Penguin has done before

Tastes of the world – Coca Cola light

i’m not sure if this website is really useful…

but it’s absolutely beautiful

http://www.cocacolalight.com.br/sabores/

it may take some time to load, but it worths to wait

a magazine out of paper

i’m not sure if this is new, but i think it’s new in Hong Kong, and this is qutie interesting

http://www.marketing-interactive.com/news/8200

“Hong Kong – New Media Group has rolled out a marketing campaign to introduce Dood Me Co, an interactive barcode that will allow readers from its Weekend Weekly and New Monday magazines to use their phones to interact with the barcodes for enhanced audio and visual content. “

inspiring story from Steve jobs

this is a speech by Steve Jobs on Stanford University commencement in 2005

not new, but truly inspiring, worth to read, i like:

“…Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle….”

i really like this paragraph and i love what i’m doing!!

Marketing 3.0? Future of digital marketing

I accidentally came across this presentation, which is quite a good & clear tutorial on marketing 3.0

take a look

in fact, i know the author! (wow it’s really my pleasure)

John Lambie, the regional digital creative director of bates 141, I once met him when he was in HK, i was there to share a case with him, which is the only case study from hong kong in bates 141 website, well this is already the biggest accomplishment for my having few yrs in this agency. and it’s really my pleasure to talk to John, and really happy to know that he’s produced such a great presentation, and will be more happy if he can win the world’s best presentation contest 08 organized by slideshare, so i’ve giveen him my vote!

a very meaningful website! Kiva

how can you call a website ‘meaningful’? I think at least this website makes a real difference to human being, or to the earth

here is one: www.kiva.org

please click and have a look!!!!!!!!!!!

it’s also listed in the 2008 best 50 websites by time magazine

what is it?: a website to connect the “poor” to the “rich”; connect those who need help to those who can help. Kiva is a transparent, lending platform.

what special?: you heard about social networking, facebook, myspace etc, ever imagine that this can help a person in the developing country?

why help people? of course! and more, you’re not just ‘DONATing’ money, you get a unique experience connecting to a specific entrepreneur on the other side of the planet! why not? it’s cool! isn’t it?

this is definitely meaningful. i should recommend this website to my the Finance director of my company! see if they’re interested as well…

aside from that, this is another meaningful website www.mybabytree.org

latest showcase from JWT

Q2 2008 showcase, i’d like to highlight:

1) “green is the new black”, whatever the campaign name is, in fact their camapign is “billboard is the new bag”, take a look ,ummm…quite brilliant to leverage on the green marketing. And for the bag, much better than “i’m not a plastic bag”

https://www.jwt.net/jwtnet/creative/reelShowcase.xsp?docid=4535304bb85ca&count=0

2) in hong kong, you’ll use a band aid when you get cut. however, in brazil, band aid become a FASHION! oh… “you’ll use a band aid even when you don’t really need it”, a new kind of tattoo? that’s….quite interesting, however i wonder how long this “fashion” trend can last…

https://www.jwt.net/jwtnet/creative/reelShowcase.xsp?docid=4535304bb85ca&count=1

3) MARADONA vs BIRO BIRO WHO?

THIS IS CRAZY! i like it, a campaign by coca cola in brazil, to ride on the name of maradona, the agency successfully create an opposite live figure/icon to promote the brand, what a great idea and how effective & cheap is the publicity! Imagine in HK, it’s like Tempest vs Maradona…

https://www.jwt.net/jwtnet/creative/reelShowcase.xsp?docid=45352f73d5836&count=1

4) Unlimited Call

this is a very effective promotion campaign, to promote a product, one of the best way is to let the customers use it/experience it- FREE TRIALS- this is the most direct promotion. Well, JWT San Juan wrap it up in an interesting way rather than just giving out free trials, this is cool. And they have good interactive component, rather than just setting up a promotion website. pretty cool!

https://www.jwt.net/jwtnet/creative/reelShowcase.xsp?docid=45352caa392f1&count=0

5) ROSE vs DIAMOND!

BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT

https://www.jwt.net/jwtnet/creative/reelShowcase.xsp?docid=45352ab6567a0&count=0

5) CAR…

well, i don’t like this campaign, but let’s see, perhaps you’ll think it’s good

though noise is generated, but is there any negative feeling from a car buyer to see a car being cut into 4?

https://www.jwt.net/jwtnet/creative/reelShowcase.xsp?docid=45352ab6567a0&count=1

that’s all from me

but, apart from the campaign itself, we should also appreciate the showcase production, sometimes it’s hard to pull resources in an agency to build a showcase, when everyone is busy. ha…
